Parks Maintenance
This division is responsible for grounds and structural maintenance of 38 parks totaling over 511 acres. In addition, this division maintains the City Cemetery, public art, Heritage Hall and the grounds of the Kirkland Performance Center, Senior Center, Teen Union Building, and Library. This division is also responsible for operations and repairs of the swimming pool, docks, moorage, ball fields, boat launch, and other repair and construction projects. The division administers the City-School Partnership program, donations program; parks volunteer program, and scheduling functions of all park space and various property management functions.
One of the 2009-2010 budget reductions made by the Parks and Community Services Department was eliminating the watering of lawn areas in 18 Neighborhood and 5 Community parks. (a savings of $40,000 per year) The exceptions to this will be all playfield turf areas, landscape beds that contain shrubs, plants & trees(significant investments we don't want to lose) and waterfront parks that can be irrigated with natural lake water. This was a very difficult decision to make but unfortunately a necessary one. If you have any questions or comments please contact Jason Filan @ 425-587-3341 or by email at jfilan@ci.kirkland.wa.us
