Everest Park Grandstand Project
|
The City of Kirkland Parks and Community Services Department is replacing the aging grandstands and storage at the southern ball field. Construction will continue until spring.
The north and west bleachers include aluminum bench seating above and lockable storage areas below each structure. Built to last, these will serve both spectator and park maintenance needs.
The design is in keeping with the character of the existing concessions stand and shares some similar elements. Existing flagpoles will be reused in the new design. Concrete walls will be textured with formlined concrete, emulating the metal panels of the existing concession stand. Precast concrete units will span from mid to end walls to form a stepped deck. Precast concrete caps will also be used atop the columns and low walls. Steel plates will border the top and sides of the deck, similar to the steel found in the existing concessions, and introduce color. Likewise, vinyl-topped bench caps will add accent color and warmth to the aluminum bench seating. Arched cedar doors will provide access to storage below the bleachers and interest along the approach to the central entrance. Concrete reliefs and reveals will be cast into the end walls near the central entrance - a motif of a baseball in flight.
