
The City of Kirkland Defines human services as those provided specifically to individuals or families experiencing difficulty in meeting their basic human needs for:
- Survival (food, shelter, protection from abuse/neglect)
- Finding and retaining gainful employment
- Social support and interaction
- Access to available, appropriate service ( transportation, information, and referral services)
HISTORY
In 1986, the Kirkland City Council adopted human service policies and guidelines. The Human Services Policy was instituted to ensure that adequate levels of human services were available to the people of Kirkland. Resolution #3315 established the Citys role in human services and established the Human Services Advisory Committee.
Accepting Applications
The City of Kirkland is accepting applications for human services funding for 2011-2012. The City will use a common application along with 17 cities from South, North and East King County.

Kirkland's human services funding is on a two year cycle. Second year funding is contingent on contract performance and program outcomes.
