Solid Waste & Recycling Rates
All-in-One Recycling Guide
Confused about what exactly goes into your blue cart? Take a look at our comprehensive recycling guide to see what is recycle and not recyclable. And you no longer need to sort your recyclables - even glass - they all go in the same container!
Extra Recyclables
There is no charge for extra recyclables. Put them in old recycling bins or cardboard boxes marked 'recycling'.
Yard Waste
Yard waste is not allowed in your garbage. It creates methane gas in landfills but can turn into nutritious mulch if composted. Please place yard waste in your gray cart.
Extra Yard Waste
You can place your extra yard waste at the curb at no extra cost in a rigid 32 gallon can marked "yard waste", in heavy paper bags (kraft), in bundles tied with twine or in reusable polywoven yard bags.
Food Scrap Recycling
More than 30% of what we throw away is composed of food scraps and food-soiled paper. Take a look at what can go from the dinner table into your gray yard waste bin.
Electronics Recycling
Computer, TVs and other electronics contain hazardous materials and are not allowed in the garbage. To recycle them at your curb, contact Waste Management at (800) 592-9995.
Take advantage of the new free, year-round E-Cycle Washington Program and recycle your old television, computer, laptop, or computer monitor today! For more information and a list of Kirkland collection sites, go to our Free Electronics Recycling page.
Textile Recycling
All dry clothing and household items such as sheets, towels, and table cloths can be recycled curbside. Put the items in clear, tied plastic bags and place the bags next to your recycling cart.
Household Hazardous Waste
Hazardous and medical wastes are not allowed in the garbage or recycling. Residents can take advantage of facilities that allow them to bring in many household chemicals including pesticides, household cleaners, and oil-based paint.
Special Collection Events
Special events help you recycle and reuse many of the materials that are not currently accepted in our recycling program. The next recycling event will be held on October 3, 2009. Click on the link to see what you can bring and what to leave at home.
