FOOD SCRAPS ARE RECYCLABLE WITH YOUR YARD WASTE!
Residents in Kirkland can recycle food scraps and food-soiled paper in their gray yard waste carts. The yard waste carts are picked up weekly by Waste Management on the same day as garbage collection. Food Recycling Flyer (PDF)
Yard Waste + Food Scraps are collected at the curb every week year round.

Please call (425) 587-3812 or email us if you would like a reusable kitchen food scrap pail similar to the one shown in the photo for collecting food scraps in the kitchen prior to emptying it into the gray yard waste container.
Food scraps can also be collected in paper bags, uncoated paper take-out cartons, pizza boxes and cardboard egg containers (if collected in these biodegradable containers, just toss the container and its contents into the yard waste cart).
NEW! Food scrap containers now also include Cedar Grove-approved compostable bags. They can be used with a kitchen scrap container or by themselves. These approved bags are designed to "breathe" moisture, but hold liquids and solids. Click here for a list of local and online retailers selling Cedar Grove approved compostable bags. You can pick up a free sample of compostable bags at the Public Works counter at City Hall at 123 5th Avenue. |
