Reserve Firefighter (Volunteer) – The City of Kirkland is looking for residents with a strong desire to serve our community.
The Kirkland Fire Reserves staff Aid 24 and provide first response medical aid to the north Finn Hill neighborhood. Reserves also staff Kirkland’s Air Unit 21 and provide support at major incidents through rehab, lighting, and air fill activities. Reserves do not perform any firefighting and are not trained in hose or ladder operations. Reserves are assigned to a crew and work every sixth night from 1930 hrs to 0600 hrs. Training nights are the third Wednesday of each month from 1930 to 2130 hrs. Reserves must also meet annual training, physical fitness, and EMT continuing education requirements.
Reserves supplement the department’s public education program with READY trailer demonstrations at schools and at several public events throughout the year. Reserves also have the opportunity to teach CPR classes to the public through Kirkland’s M.A.T. program.
The Kirkland Reserve Firefighter program is not a ‘stepping stone’ to a career in the fire service; rather it is a way for citizens to give back to the community in a very meaningful way. To volunteer as a Kirkland Fire Department Reserve you must have a strong desire to serve the Kirkland community and:
- Live either within the Kirkland Fire Department response area or within five minutes of the boundary
- Be 18 years of age
- Pass a background check
SELECTION PROCESS: Applications are continually accepted and valid for 12 month from the date of submission. As openings become available, the application pool will be evaluated and the top candidates based on the content of their application packet will be contacted to participate in the interview process.
A completed City of Kirkland application must be submitted to City Hall and forwarded to the attention of Lieutenant Mark Buenting.
For more information email Lieutenant Mark Buenting.
