SALARY: $4,267 - $5,020/month, plus benefits

HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

POSITION SUMMARY: This is a full-time, 6-month temporary position. The primary assignment for this temporary position will be to deploy new PC’s throughout the City and to roll out Office 2007 City-wide. The Help Desk Technician troubleshoots, diagnoses, and resolves problems with desktop computer hardware, related operating systems, application software, PC-level network functionality, and computer and telephony peripherals for City departments. Assists City employees with questions and problems related to a variety of desktop computer application software and provides instruction on software and hardware capabilities. Performs routine maintenance and repairs on desktop computers and computer and telephony peripherals, including replacement parts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two-year technical degree in computer science or a closely related field or other combination of experience and education to substitute. Two years experience in the use of information technologies, specifically personal computers, and telephony peripherals. Experience with local area networks running in a Windows environment preferred. Due to the level of security access required for this position, will be required to pass a Washington State Patrol Background Check.

WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: Incumbent is typically required to reach, stand, walk, finger, talk, hear, and perform activities requiring repetitive motions. Work is typically light work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Requires ability to respond to call-outs in the evening, nights, and on weekends, including serving on a regular call rotation schedule. As a condition of employment, must become a member of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees Union (AFSCME) within 30 days of employment or meet alternate regulations as set forth in the Agreement between the Union and the City.
